Our Top Tips
Whether you have just invested in some new bowls or you want to keep the ones you have played with for years in great condition for as long as possible, knowing how to take care of lawn bowls is so important. As a leading provider of bowls accessories and keen players ourselves, we are the perfect team to help you look after your lawn bowls and get plenty of use out of them. Here are some of our top bowl care tips and what you can buy to help you.
Cleaning
Bowls can get dirty after just one match, so it’s really important to clean them regularly if you want to keep them looking their best. You don’t need any fancy equipment to clean the grip area; a brush or toothpick will do. Neither of these cause any damage and are used by bowlers all over the world. Then rinse with lukewarm water and a mild soap. You don’t want to use anything too harsh or abrasive, as this could actually damage your bowls. After that, dry them thoroughly with a soft cloth. We stock microfibre bowls towels, which are perfect for this.
Polishing
Once your bowls are clean and dry, it’s time to polish them. If you’ve noticed that players at your club have bowls that are beautifully shiny, they are taking the time to polish them regularly. Not only does it help them to look great, but it also provides a layer of protection. We stock two of the bestselling polishes in the world here at Jack and Bowl: Henselite Grippo and Henselite Wilgrip. All you need to do is apply a small amount to your bowls and let it dry. Then use a polishing sleeve to buff your bowls and give them that all-important shine. A proper sleeve ensures you can keep the bowl secure as you do this.
Storage
Storage is one of the most important aspects of proper lawn bowl care, but far too many people forget all about it and leave their bowls anywhere! You should always keep them in a cool, dry place, as high temperatures or direct sunlight can cause them to warp or crack. You should also ensure that your bowls aren’t stored on any hard or abrasive surfaces to further protect their finish. Don’t store them directly on top of each other either!
Travelling safely
What about when you are travelling to and from your bowls club or a tournament? How do you store your bowls properly then? Don’t ever store them loose in the boot of your car; this is a recipe for disaster and will see them knocked around and put at risk of damage. You will want to use a specialist bag to keep them safe during any journey. Plus, they will be easier for you to carry! We stock a large range of bowls bags for you to choose from.
